Catch up, quick!

These are from 10/22....

We worked on adding and regrouping with Tally sticks.....
4+3....

Is 7 (5 and 2)!

We did a worksheet...

We matched the patterns on the dot cards with our tiles to learn about odd and even. It gives a visual frame of reference. At dinner, my husband have E very large numbers and he was able to tell even or odd! It also introduced counting by 2s.

He separated 1-10 into even and odd piles.

Then we counted by two on the abacus - another visual. When we were done looking at the even numbers, E declared he could also count the odds, "1,3,5,7,9!" I was so impressed! I asked where he learned it, and he told me, "I just know!"

Then we moved on to unit studies. We read about Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Catch up - handwriting

We clearly haven't done schoolwork in awhile. This is actually supposed to be our first week of our second six week block. #1 rule of homeschool? Flexibility!

Today we did a bunch of catch-up on handwriting. We did one more "Frog-jump Capital", reviewed them, learned two 2 letters, and 2 new numbers.

9/29/14

Today we began with our usual warm-up, "Yellow is the Sun." Then we moved on to playing "What comes next?" on the abacus. I say a number and E shows me what comes next.

We reviewed in front, behind, beside, above, and below by playing "I Spy" and by moving around with each other.

Next, we worked on different types of patterns with our tiles.

Today's HWT lesson was N, 3, and 4. First we did "Wet, Dry, Try."

Then, we moved on to our workbooks. T started hers today, and loved it! She got so excited when she was able to finish a page. She used the special crayons from HWT.

9/22/14

Today was another day of evening school. We decided to start with handwriting first, to change things up.

For math, we began with our song, and we we reviewed how to show numbers with the abacus,  tiles, and tally sticks.

Then we practiced writing the tally marks. He did a great job!

We also did workbook pages to continue practicing making tally marks.

We spent some more time making shapes on the geoboards, and then E drew them into his workbook.

9/17/14

This is a late post - sorry!

I needed these cards sorted, so I used that as a warm up activity - win for all of us!

Next, we sang "Yellow is the Sun".

We reviewed numbers on the abacus.

We also reviewed the characteristics of rectangles. E put them in order, and we discussed special rectangles (aka squares).

Next, we started using our workbook! E cut and pasted his squares. We worked on organizing BEFORE pasting. His cutting is getting much more controlled, too.

While we were working, T kept busy in the Busy Box. She's cooking muffins and matzo ball soup here....

After math, we moved on to handwriting. We did letters D and P, and the number 2.

We started with "Wet, dry, try."

Then we moved to the workbook - finger tracing, and then practicing each letter. He did a great job looking at how he could improve after each attempt - sometimes they were perfect, too!
