We started the day off (after our High 5!, of course) by my helper learning to use the washing machine. He brought down the kids' laundry and started the wash! (Later, I had him move it to the dryer.)

Then it was time for breakfast!
They all seem to give me the same smirk....wonder where they get that from? :p After breakfast, all my handy helpers did a great job cleaning up!
Then it was time for school! It's a bit dark, but it says "My First Day 2014" on the chalkboard.
Our first lesson was math. We are using RightStart Math Level A. Both E (almost 5) and T (3) participated. We learned left and right, how to show numbers with tally sticks, squares, other objects, and of course, our fingers. :) E also worked on patterns:
After math, we moved on to handwriting. We are using Handwriting Without Tears Kindergarten curriculum. E has a K book and T has a Pre-K book. Today we worked on writing readiness, including left and right, shaking hands, how to hold a pencil, and familiarizing ourselves with some HWT terminology through song and dance! Here are E & T having fun with one of the songs...
Our last assignment for today (which was planned for the afternoon, but they wanted to do it RIGH.THEN was our unit study - Our Solar System. I found a curriculum for 1st graders online, so we are doing the age-appropriate pieces of it. We read the Magic Schoolbus: Lost in the Solar System, learned some vocab (solar system, sun, planet, and star), and learned the order of the planets (including little dwarf, Pluto). Then we got busy with some art to decorate our bulletin board - we practiced coloring, and gluing, and E practiced cutting.
Time to glue the solar system in order! (i would just like to note that T put hers in a line all by herself, my only direction was to put the sun in a corner.)
They did it! Not sure why she wouldn't smile...she did such a great job!!
Learning to be good helpers, they made their own lunches!
Then Eli finished his laundry.....
I call today an OVERWHELMING success! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us here at the Mishpacha Day School!
