First Day 2015-16!

Well, we have officially begun! I had a lot planned for today, and we (to my pleasant surprise) got it all done!

We started our day by making a "First Day" drawing. I believe E made a picture of himself and me at the table working. After that, I gave him a tour of our schoolroom. I think one of his favorite things is the lesson chart:

I have a card for each of our subjects. Each day, it is filled with everything we need to cover, and as we complete lessons he removes the subject card. It also allows him a visual of what he has left to do, and allows him to choose (with suggestions from me) what to do next.

Another thing he loved was this putty:

I got it at the homeschool expo. It's a great way to keep his hands busy when we have a lesson that involves sitting and listening (like history).

Today in Math, we did an assessment test. We had to review partitioning and naming numbers over 10 (ex 1-ten two is 12). He did great and remembered quickly.

We worked on completing ideas to make a complete sentence in grammar.

And did a few pages of critical thinking.

Then we took a field trip to Costco for lunch and groceries. He helped me plan the menu, make the list, and shop.

We forgot to color in the phonograms he has already mastered, so we did that at the end of the day.

When we were all done, he decided he wanted to play dice games. We first did a Boggle type game using 4 letter dice.

Then he switched to math equations with addition or subtraction. He did awesome!

Overall, a great first day!
